How to Switch from SEOmonitor to RankControl Without Losing Data

Moving from SEOmonitor to RankControl: the 30-day export window after you cancel, what to export first, the landing-page catch in historical exports, and where everything lands.

How to Switch from SEOmonitor to RankControl Without Losing Data

If you're leaving SEOmonitor, the clock that matters starts when you cancel. Its terms of service say it plainly: "On termination: access ends; the Customer may export its data for 30 days, after which we delete or anonymise Customer Data." The help center goes a step further and tells you to export everything you need before you cancel.

So you get a month after cancelling, and that month is a hard deadline. Here's how to move from SEOmonitor, the agency SEO platform, to RankControl, and what to take with you inside that window. Every SEOmonitor detail comes from its help center, terms and pricing page, which I checked on September 26, 2026.

What comes with you when you switch from SEOmonitor

SEOmonitor exports well. Nearly everything has a CSV, API or Looker Studio route out, and the export tools have no limits while you're subscribed.

In SEOmonitorCan you take it?Where it lands in RankControl
Daily rank historyYes, CSV, Sheets or APIYour before-picture
AI Overview and AI Search trackingYes, through exports and the APITracked queries and baseline
Forecasts and objectivesYes, CSVReference for targets
Competitor dataYes, CSVYour competitor list
Content Writer articlesAlready published on your CMSLink targets, found by a sitemap scan
Organic traffic dataYes, CSVSearch Console stays with you anyway

What you won't get is a day-by-day record of landing pages. The help center says exports carry "only the latest landing pages for the keywords, and not those that ranked on the days of the selected timeframe." You'll leave with your rank history, but not with which page held each position on each day.

How to export your data from SEOmonitor

Go through your campaigns in order of importance:

If you...Export this
Tracked rankingsDaily ranks, keyword groups and visibility for the full timeframe you want to keep
Tracked AI answersAI Overview mentions and citations, plus ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity results if you had the AI Search add-on
Watched competitorsThe competitor table with ranks, SERP features and visibility
Shared forecasts with a client or bossEvery scenario and objective
Care which page rankedNotes on which page ranked at key dates for your top 20 keywords, since exports won't show it
Built keyword listsYour Keyword Vault lists, the raw material for your new query list

If you only get one thing done early, make it the landing-page notes. Everything else comes out in an export, and that history doesn't. Large exports run in the background from the Exports section, and small ones download from each module. If you'd rather script it, you'll find the API token under Settings, then Profile, and the help center calls API access free and unrestricted.

Cancel without leaving a gap

When you're ready, go to the Billing section, open Manage Subscriptions, click the subscription and choose Cancel Subscription. You can also email [email protected]. Your access lasts until the end of the period you've paid for, so on annual billing, cancelling stops the renewal and you keep the rest of your paid year.

Your subscription renews automatically, and the terms say SEOmonitor "may not send a separate renewal reminder," so put the date in your calendar yourself. If you cancel and come back later, the help center warns of "a gap in data collection corresponding to the inactive period, which cannot be retroactively filled."

That's the reason to run both tools for a few weeks. Keep SEOmonitor tracking until RankControl's first weekly checks arrive, then cancel. Don't delete your profile until your exports are safe, since deletion is permanent and separate from cancelling. After that, remove SEOmonitor's access to Google Analytics and Search Console, and revoke its API token.

Check what depends on SEOmonitor

Anything that reads from SEOmonitor will break when you leave, and it's easy to overlook next to the exports:

If you haveWhat to expect
Looker Studio dashboards built on its connectorThey stop updating, so rebuild the ones you still need on your exported data or on Search Console
Google Sheets that use its add-onThey freeze at the last refresh
Scheduled email reports to clients or your bossThey stop, so tell the people who get them before the reports disappear
Scripts that call its APIThey start failing once the token is revoked

Go through this a week before you cancel, not the day after.

Keep your before-picture comparable

To compare before and after, you need to know that the two tools measure different things. SEOmonitor measures by keyword. Its AI Search tracking runs your existing Google keywords through ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity weekly, and its AI Overview tracking checks Google's answers daily. RankControl measures by query, with up to 50 questions written the way buyers ask them and checked weekly on six engines.

So choose your 50 with care. Start from the keywords where SEOmonitor showed you in AI Overviews or AI Search, and add the questions buyers ask around them. If you tracked "crm for small business," you might add "What's the best CRM for a 10-person sales team?" and "Is HubSpot or Pipedrive better for a small team?" Those are closer to what people type into ChatGPT.

On each one, note whether you were mentioned or cited, the same split both tools report. For AI Overviews, SEOmonitor also records where your URL sat among the cited sources, so write that position down too.

If you report to clients, an r/SEO_tools_reviews thread from this month is worth a look. An agency marketer there asked for ranking software that works for client reporting rather than a dashboard full of keywords. Put your before-picture through the same test and keep the numbers someone will read.

What's the best SEO ranking report software for client work?

I'm looking for SEO ranking report software that's actually good for client reporting, not just tracking keywords in a dashboard. Main things I care about are accurate rankings, clean reports, location and device tracking and being able to...

Where everything lands in RankControl

Once you're in RankControl, start with Brand Control. It reads your live site and drafts your voice, products, buyers and competitors for you to correct. If you set a custom writing style in SEOmonitor's Content Writer, add those rules as guideline rules, along with up to three of your best articles as style references.

Next, bring in your tracked queries and up to 10 competitors from the SEOmonitor export. AI visibility tracking checks each query weekly on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Google AI Mode. That gives you three engines SEOmonitor doesn't track: Claude, Grok and AI Mode.

Then connect a publishing destination and run the sitemap scan, so your new articles link into the ones Content Writer published. The content engine plans titles from your buyers' questions and writes each article against the pages already ranking, up to 100 pages a month. Each published page gets its rankings checked weekly on Google and Bing, along with whether an AI Overview cited it. The analytics also bring in your Search Console data and count visits from AI crawlers and from people who clicked through from an AI answer.

If you rely on classic rank tracking, SEOmonitor goes further there. It tracks thousands of keywords daily, forecasts traffic and reports across client portfolios, while RankControl tracks rankings for the pages it publishes.

The switch from SEOmonitor, step by step

StepWhat to doTime
1Export rank history, AI tracking, competitors and forecasts45 to 90 minutes
2Note landing pages for your top keywords at key datesAbout 20 minutes
3Start RankControl's 7-day free trial and let setup read your siteAbout 15 minutes
4Correct the brand draft, add guideline rules and style references30 to 45 minutes
5Add tracked queries and competitors, then connect your CMSAbout 45 minutes
6Run both tools until RankControl's first weekly check landsOne week
7Cancel SEOmonitor, revoke its API token and Google access, and keep your exports

That's about four hours of your time, plus a week where both tools run.

What changes after the switch

You'll pay differently:

SEOmonitor StarterSEOmonitor ProRankControl
Price€99/mo€299/mo$400/mo, one plan

Your weekly routine changes too. SEOmonitor checks AI Overviews daily and RankControl checks every engine weekly, so you'll get fewer data points and should read them as a trend. Instead of a keyword table, you'll see which engines named you and where competitors were cited instead. A weekly email brings you new citations, ranking moves and visits from AI answers.

You can run all of this by hand: write the pages, publish them, pitch the links and check six engines every week. Or RankControl's agents can run it every month while you focus on your product. If you want the two tools head to head, see RankControl vs SEOmonitor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Use the export button in each module, or the Exports section for bigger downloads. CSV exports are unlimited, there's a Google Sheets add-on, Pro adds a Looker Studio connector, and the API is free with a token under Settings, then Profile. The help center says to export everything you need before you cancel.

You get 30 days after termination to export, according to SEOmonitor's terms, and then it deletes or anonymizes customer data. Cancelling stops your billing but leaves your profile in place until then. Deleting the profile is a separate step, and a permanent one.

Open the Billing section, go to Manage Subscriptions, click the subscription and choose Cancel Subscription, or email [email protected] instead. You keep access until the paid period ends. Watch the renewal date, because subscriptions renew automatically and the terms say you may not get a reminder.

No, you only get the latest landing page for each keyword, according to the help center, rather than the page that ranked on each day in your timeframe. So for your most important keywords, screenshot or note that history before you leave.

You'll need one to two hours to export rankings, AI tracking data and forecasts, and about two hours to set up RankControl. Keep SEOmonitor running until RankControl's first weekly checks arrive, so your data has no gap.
