How is this different from GA4?
It's the search-and-AI lens GA4 doesn't have: AI referrals classified per assistant, an AI crawler log, Google and Bing positions and Search Console beside your traffic, all scoped to the content RankControl publishes. Keep GA4 for everything else; nothing needs migrating.
Do I need to install a tracking tag?
Depends on your platform. WordPress works through the plugin, Webflow and Framer need a one-time code paste, and Shopify, Wix, and Notion block it. The Analytics screen tells you which you have before you turn it on. No tag manager, and tracking is anonymous.
Which AI crawlers do you track?
Twelve and counting, including GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, Bingbot, Bytespider, CCBot, Amazonbot, and Applebot-Extended. Every hit is logged per page and per bot.
What counts as an AI referral?
A human visitor who arrived from an AI assistant, detected from the referrer: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Grok and others, each credited to the assistant that sent it. Bot hits are kept separate as crawl events, never mixed into your traffic.
Do you track Google AI Overviews?
Yes. For every tracked keyword, the Google rank check records whether an AI Overview showed and whether your page was one of its sources. The Rankings tab shows it beside the position, with a filter for keywords where the box shows but never names you.
How fresh is the data?
Visits and plugin crawler hits stream in live. Cloudflare crawler data, Search Console, and site health refresh daily. Citation checks, Google and Bing rank checks, and competitor scans run weekly.
