Outrank's pitch is hard to beat on paper. For $99 a month it picks keywords, writes 30 articles, publishes them to your CMS and builds backlinks through an exchange with other customers. The trouble usually shows up a few months in, when the volume is there and the traffic isn't.
In an r/founder thread about Outrank, one user said their results dipped after a few weeks. Another founder posted on X in February that Outrank ran out of ideas and published near-copies of earlier posts. Neither is unusual for an autopilot that's paid by the article.
This guide compares seven Outrank alternatives. The seven are RankControl, Semrush Content Toolkit, Search Atlas, Frase, BlogSEO, Koala AI and SEO.ai. Every price comes from each vendor's own pricing page, checked on October 19, 2026.
Outrank alternatives compared
| Tool | Starting price | Articles a month | Publishes to your CMS | Tracks AI answers | Backlinks | Free trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RankControl | $400/mo | Up to 100 | 9 destinations | 6 engines, weekly | Outreach drafted from your mailbox | 7 days |
| Semrush Content Toolkit | $60/mo | 5 boosted, plus standard | WordPress | Separate toolkit | No | 7 days |
| Search Atlas | $99/mo | About 50 on credits | Any CMS | From $199 plan | Separate products | 7 days |
| Frase | $39/mo yearly | 10 | WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Sanity | Yes | No | 7 days |
| BlogSEO | $97/mo | 30 | Yes, automatic | $89/mo add-on | Up to 15 a month | 3 days |
| Koala AI | $99/mo for autopilot | Word-based | WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Ghost | Not listed | No | 5,000 free words |
| SEO.ai | $149/mo | Not stated | Auto, draft or review | Not stated | Included | 7 days |
| Outrank (for reference) | $99/mo | 30 | 7 integrations plus webhook | Not in plan | Credit-based exchange | Watermarked trial |
The table shows the real split. Most Outrank alternatives copy its model, selling articles on autopilot. Only a few tell you whether those articles get found in Google and AI answers, and that's the gap most people leaving Outrank are trying to close.
The short answer
- For teams that want the articles tracked as well as published, the best Outrank alternative is RankControl, because it checks every page against Google rankings and six AI engines each week.
- For teams already paying for Semrush, the best pick is Semrush Content Toolkit, because $60 adds content to data you already use.
- For teams that also want technical fixes automated, the best pick is Search Atlas, because OTTO applies on-page changes alongside the content.
- For solo marketers on a budget, the best pick is Frase, at $39 a month billed yearly.
- For the closest like-for-like swap, the best pick is BlogSEO, with 30 articles and backlinks for $97.

Why teams look for an Outrank alternative
Outrank's plan is clear. According to its pricing page, the Organic Growth plan costs $99 a month or $999 a year for 30 articles on one site, with keyword research, AI images, unlimited users and automated backlink building. Add-ons take it to 60 articles for $85 more or 90 for $160 more, and a human-edited service costs $1,399 a month.

To be fair to Outrank, $99 for 30 published articles is cheaper per article than most tools on this list. If volume on a tight budget is all you need, it's hard to undercut.
The reasons people leave cluster around three things. The first is direction, since an autopilot paid by the article keeps publishing whether or not the topics fit. The second is the backlink exchange, which places links on other customers' blogs. Google's spam policies list excessive link exchanges as a form of link spam, so it's worth knowing where those links land. The third is measurement. Outrank's AI Visibility page shows citations its customers earned, measured with Ahrefs, but the plan itself doesn't include a tracker for your own AI answers.
1. RankControl
RankControl is the best Outrank alternative for teams that want to know whether the content works. It covers the same ground Outrank does, from keyword research to writing and publishing, and then keeps going.

The planner builds a monthly calendar from your brand profile and the questions your buyers ask, so topics come from demand rather than a keyword list alone. Each article is written against the pages already ranking for it and published as a native post on WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Ghost, Notion, Wix, Framer or a headless site. Auto-publish is off by default.
Then RankControl tracks the results through its AI visibility tracking. It checks 50 buyer questions every week across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Google AI Mode, and reports Google rankings and AI-referred visits next to them. Instead of a link exchange, it finds sites worth pitching for each published article and drafts the outreach emails, which send from your own mailbox.
One plan costs $400 a month or $4,000 a year, with a 7-day free trial, and includes up to 100 pages a month and five seats. That's four times Outrank's price for about three times the output, plus the tracking and outreach Outrank leaves out.
2. Semrush Content Toolkit
Semrush Content Toolkit is the strongest pick for teams already in Semrush. According to Semrush's help page, it costs $60 a month with a 7-day free trial. That includes unlimited standard articles and five "SEO-boosted" articles a month built on Semrush data, with 10 more boosted articles for $30 a month.

It publishes to up to 100 connected WordPress sites. It isn't a hands-off autopilot like Outrank, though. You pick topics and press publish, and AI answer tracking sits in Semrush's separate AI Visibility Toolkit.
3. Search Atlas
Search Atlas suits teams that want content and technical SEO from one place. Starter costs $99 a month with 50,000 Universal Credits, which Search Atlas says covers about 50 premium AI articles. It also includes OTTO, an agent that applies on-page fixes like titles, meta descriptions and schema to one site.

AI visibility tracking across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode starts on the $199 Growth plan. Everything draws from the same credit pool, so heavy content months leave less for audits and tracking. There's a 7-day trial with a free onboarding session. Our RankControl vs Search Atlas comparison goes deeper on the credit model.

4. Frase
Frase is the budget pick that covers the most of Outrank's loop. Starter costs $39 a month billed yearly, or $49 month to month, for one site, 10 articles and 50 audit pages a month. Professional costs $103 a month billed yearly for 40 articles across five sites.

Its agent researches, drafts, scores and publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix, and it can publish on its own if you allow it. AI Visibility covers ChatGPT and Google AI on every plan, with Perplexity, Claude and Gemini added higher up. It doesn't build backlinks. Every plan has a 7-day trial with no card.
5. BlogSEO
BlogSEO is the closest like-for-like swap for Outrank. Its Ambition plan costs $97 a month after a three-day free trial, for 30 articles a month, automatic publishing, internal linking and up to 15 backlinks. A Starter plan halves the output to 15 articles for $59.

The difference is in the add-ons. An AI Visibility tracker costs $89 a month per website and covers ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI with 30 prompts. Premium backlinks cost $149 a month per website. With both, BlogSEO lands at $335 a month, close to RankControl's price. Our RankControl vs BlogSEO comparison lays the two side by side.
6. Koala AI
Koala AI is a long-form writer that grew an autopilot. Its plans start at $25 a month, but the Content Calendar Autopilot that matches Outrank's hands-off model sits on the $99 Boost plan, with 250,000 words a month.

Koala publishes to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Ghost and webhooks, and includes an MCP server on every paid plan. Its live Amazon data makes it a strong fit for affiliate sites. According to its pricing page, neither AI answer tracking nor backlink building is part of any plan.
7. SEO.ai
SEO.ai sells itself as an AI colleague that does an SEO agency's monthly work. A single site costs $149 a month and the multi-site plan $299, with a 7-day trial and no binding period on monthly plans.

According to its FAQ, you can choose automatic publishing, saving as drafts or reviewing in the platform, and it emails you the content before publishing. Backlinks from what it calls real, non-spammy websites are part of the plan. The pricing page doesn't state an article count.

Questions to ask any autopilot before you switch
Most of these tools publish on your behalf, so the risks are the same ones that pushed people off Outrank. Ask each vendor these before you connect your CMS.
- Who chooses the topics, and can I see the plan before anything publishes?
- What stops it publishing two articles on the same topic?
- Where do any backlinks come from, and can I see every placement?
- How will I know if the articles rank or get cited in AI answers?
- What happens to my posts and images if I cancel?
The fourth question separates the field most clearly. Several tools on this list can't answer it without an add-on or a second product.
How to switch from Outrank
Your Outrank articles are ordinary posts in your CMS, so they stay when you cancel. Three things need attention first. Some images in those posts may still load from Outrank's servers, trial articles carry an Outrank credit line, and the backlink exchange placed links to other customers inside your posts.
Our step-by-step guide to switching from Outrank covers exporting through Outrank's API, cleaning up those links, cancelling and refunds. Outrank's terms allow a full refund within seven days of a first payment.
What running content by hand costs
Doing Outrank's job without any tool means researching, writing and publishing each article yourself, about four to six hours per post. Thirty articles a month is 120 to 180 hours. Then come the parts Outrank skips, checking rankings and AI answers, which adds two to three hours a week.
You can do all of this manually. Or RankControl's agents can do it for you every month, planning, writing, publishing and tracking each page, while you focus on your product.
