Best Rank Tracking Software In 2026 For Google And AI Search

An agency posted in r/SEO in October 2026 that its rank reports had fallen apart. Clients were doing fine. Search Console traffic was up. But in the tracker, half the page-one keywords kept vanishing and coming back.

What rank tracking tools are you using and is the data accurate?

For the longest time my agency has been using Advanced Web Ranking for normal rank tracking reports (we use other tools for GBP listings). In the last few months we started supplementing the data using DataforSEO internally. Well, as most o...

The top reply said to treat Search Console as the source of truth and third-party trackers as rough trend data. A thread in r/DoSEO that same month put it more bluntly, under the title "Rank Tracking Solutions are Dead."

Rank tracking isn't dead, but it changed. Trackers fight Google to collect results, and buyers now want AI answers tracked in the same report. Here's how the main tools compare on both jobs.

The 10 best rank tracking tools in 2026

The 10 tools on this list are Semrush, Ahrefs, RankControl, SE Ranking, AccuRanker, Advanced Web Ranking, Nightwatch, SEOmonitor, Keyword.com and Mangools. Everything below was checked on October 19, 2026 against each vendor's pricing page and docs. Prices move often, so recheck before you buy.

One way to compare plans is cost per 1,000 tracked keywords a month. On entry plans that's about $33 for Keyword.com's 360 plan, $65 for SE Ranking and $112 for AccuRanker. It rises to $172 for Ahrefs Lite, about $189 for Mangools and $278 for Semrush's SEO plan. Advanced Web Ranking counts keyword units differently, so it doesn't fit this math.

Cheaper per keyword doesn't mean better. Semrush's price buys a whole SEO suite, and Ahrefs' buys backlink data most of the others don't have.

RANKCONTROL

15 hours a week manually. Or 15 minutes with RankControl.

Track citations, monitor competitors, and fix content gaps across every AI search engine. Automatically.

The tools, one by one

1. Semrush

Semrush pricing page showing SEO, Starter SEO plus AI Search, Pro+ and Advanced plans billed yearly

Semrush is the safest default. Its SEO plan costs $139 a month, or $117.33 billed yearly, and tracks 500 keywords daily across 5 websites through Position Tracking.

Its plans now come in two versions, SEO and SEO plus AI Search. The Starter plan with AI Search costs $199 a month and adds 50 prompts tracked daily, on platforms like Google AI Mode and ChatGPT, according to Semrush's own toolkit page. Pro+ at $299 doubles the prompts and tracks 1,500 keywords.

The extras add up. More users start at $45 a month each, and the rank data sits next to keyword research, site audits and competitor reports you'll use anyway.

For all-round SEO teams, the best pick is Semrush, because rank and AI tracking come inside a suite you'd likely buy anyway.

2. Ahrefs

Ahrefs Rank Tracker page headlined monitor keyword rankings globally

Ahrefs' Rank Tracker comes with every plan, from Lite at $129 a month with 750 tracked keywords to Advanced at $449 with 5,000. Its product page lists the update frequency as weekly, and it tracks 19 SERP features, including AI Overviews.

AI answers are a separate product. Brand Radar covers AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity, from $199 a month, and custom prompt tracking starts at $50 a month. Lite includes just 5 tracked AI prompts.

Ahrefs doesn't run free trials. Its pricing FAQ points site owners to Ahrefs Free instead.

For teams that already pay for Ahrefs' backlink data, the best pick is its own Rank Tracker, because weekly updates are enough for most sites.

3. RankControl

RankControl AI visibility page showing tracking across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews

RankControl isn't a pure rank tracker, and it shouldn't replace one if you need daily data on thousands of keywords. It tracks Google and Bing positions for the pages it publishes for you, weekly. Then it checks 50 of your buyer questions every week across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews.

The difference is what happens before the tracking. RankControl plans and writes the articles, publishes them to your site once you approve, and drafts link outreach. So the rankings you watch belong to pages it built for your buyers' questions.

It's one plan at $400 a month or $4,000 a year, with a 7-day free trial.

For teams that want the content and the tracking in one place, the best pick is RankControl, because it ships the pages it then measures.

4. SE Ranking

SE Ranking pricing page showing Core at $103.20 a month billed yearly with 2,000 keywords and 100 prompts tracked daily

SE Ranking gives the most for the money among the full suites. Core costs $129 a month, or $103.20 billed yearly, and tracks 2,000 keywords daily plus 100 AI prompts daily across five AI engines. Growth at $279 raises that to 5,000 keywords and 250 prompts.

Its AI tracking covers AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, and it has a 14-day trial with no card required. Our RankControl vs SE Ranking comparison goes deeper on the AI side.

For value-minded teams that want daily ranks and AI prompts in one tool, the best pick is SE Ranking.

5. AccuRanker

AccuRanker sells speed. Its Professional plan costs $224 a month for 2,000 keywords with daily updates, and the Expert plan starts at $764 a month for 10,000 keywords.

6. Advanced Web Ranking

Advanced Web Ranking is the agency veteran. Pro costs $139 a month for 7,000 keyword units, with unlimited projects and users, local and mobile rankings, and AI visibility tracking with citations included. Agency at $279 adds one-hour on-demand updates.

Its plan list includes 4,000+ search engines and daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly update schedules. The flexibility is the point. Our comparison with Advanced Web Ranking covers which AI engines its tracking reads.

For agencies tracking many markets and search engines, the best pick is Advanced Web Ranking.

RANKCONTROL

AI search traffic grew 835% this year. Is your content ready?

RankControl generates 26 content formats optimized for ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity. Published on your domain, matched to your brand.

7. Nightwatch

Nightwatch pricing page headlined simple pricing, unlimited seats, with Starter at 79 euros a month

Nightwatch's pitch is in its headline, no per-seat fees. Starter costs €79 a month billed yearly for 500 keywords tracked daily and 50 AI prompts, with your whole team included.

It covers a wide spread of search surfaces. Rankings run on Google, YouTube, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and Google Maps, and AI tracking covers ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Mode and AI Overviews. The trial is 14 days with no card. Our RankControl vs Nightwatch post compares the two directly.

8. SEOmonitor

SEOmonitor is built around agency reporting and forecasting. Starter costs €79 a month for 500 keywords with daily top-100 tracking, and extra keywords cost €68 per 1,000. Pro starts at €299 a month for teams managing many sites.

Its AI tracking is weekly. AI Overviews are tracked daily, and Starter includes one AI engine of your choice from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. Our SEOmonitor comparison covers the agency side, and our guide to white label rank tracking covers what to put in client reports.

For agencies that forecast and report to clients, the best pick is SEOmonitor.

9. Keyword.com

Keyword.com is the cheapest way in. Its Search Visibility plan starts at $4 a month for 50 keywords, or $3 billed yearly. The 360 Visibility plan costs $33 a month for 1,000 keywords and adds 15 AI credits for tracking prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, AI Mode and AI Overviews.

You pick weekly or daily updates, and top 50 or top 100 depth. Our Keyword.com comparison explains how its AI credits are spent.

For tight budgets, the best pick is Keyword.com, because $33 a month covers 1,000 keywords.

10. Mangools

Mangools SERPWatcher page advertising weekly rankings, daily on the Agency plan

Mangools bundles SERPWatcher with its keyword, SERP and backlink tools. The Basic plan costs $37.70 a month billed yearly and tracks 200 keywords with weekly updates. Daily updates need the Agency plan, at $97.70 a month billed yearly.

Every plan now includes AI Search Watcher PRO, with 500 prompts monitored. It's the lightest tool here, and that's fine for one site.

For solo marketers on one site, the best pick is Mangools.

Why rank trackers disagree with Search Console

The r/SEO agency's problem is common, and it isn't always the tool's fault. A tracker checks one search, from one place, at one moment. Search Console averages every real impression, across locations, devices and personalized results.

So the two will rarely match. One reply pointed out that the vanishing keywords were the ones with an AI Overview where the site also ranked first. That points at how the tracker classifies the result rather than at a real drop.

The practical answer is to use both. Search Console tells you what really happened on your own site. A tracker tells you where you stand on exact keywords and against competitors, which Search Console can't.

Tracking AI answers is a different job

Rank trackers check a fixed list of results. AI answers change from run to run, so a single daily check of a few prompts can swing wildly. Our look at daily versus weekly ChatGPT rank tracking found weekly works for most teams, as long as each question runs several times and you judge the trend over three or four weeks.

Coverage varies too. SEOmonitor's Starter plan tracks one AI engine, Ahrefs Lite tracks 5 prompts, and Nightwatch covers six AI surfaces. Check that the engines your buyers use are on the list before you compare prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

For most teams, Semrush, because it tracks 500 keywords daily inside a full SEO suite and adds AI prompt tracking on its SEO plus AI Search plans. Ahrefs is the strongest choice if you already use it for backlinks, and SE Ranking gives the most keywords and AI prompts for the price.

As of October 2026, Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking, Advanced Web Ranking, Nightwatch, SEOmonitor, Keyword.com and Mangools all track AI answers in some form, and AccuRanker sells it separately as AccuLLM. Coverage differs a lot, from one chosen engine on SEOmonitor's Starter plan to six AI surfaces on Nightwatch.

Entry plans in our check ran from $4 a month for 50 keywords on Keyword.com to $224 a month for 2,000 daily keywords on AccuRanker. Per 1,000 keywords a month, that's about $33 on Keyword.com's 360 plan, $65 on SE Ranking, $172 on Ahrefs Lite and $278 on Semrush's SEO plan.

Both. Search Console shows the average position real people saw, so it's the better source of truth for your own site. A rank tracker shows exact positions for chosen keywords, locations and competitors, which Search Console can't.

Daily updates help when you're reacting to changes or reporting to clients. Weekly is enough for most small sites, and it's what Ahrefs and Mangools' base plans offer. AI answers vary from run to run, so weekly checks across many questions are more useful than daily checks of a few.
