Best GEO Tools For ChatGPT And Perplexity Visibility In 2026

A thread in r/GEO_optimization asked which GEO tools people had actually found effective. One of the most useful replies was also the bluntest. Most GEO tools, it said, run a list of prompts on a schedule and chart how often you show up. Another reply went further: prompt tracking is close to a commodity now, and the prompt list is where the value sits.

What GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) tools have you actually used and found effective?

I’m looking to hear from people who have actually tested GEO tools in real SEO workflows—not just tools that claim to improve AI visibility. Which tools have you used for things like: * Tracking brand mentions/citations in AI search * Monit...

That leaves two questions worth asking before you pay. Does the plan you can afford actually cover ChatGPT and Perplexity, two of the engines buyers lean on most when they research software? And does the tool help you change the answer, or only report it? This list ranks eight GEO tools on both. Every price and engine list was checked on the vendor's own site on September 26, 2026.

What ChatGPT and Perplexity have in common

Both engines answer most product questions by searching the web first and citing what they read. Perplexity does it on almost every question, and ChatGPT does it whenever it decides a question needs fresh sources. That makes both engines reachable in a way a model's training data isn't. A page that ranks and answers the question directly can start getting cited within weeks.

It also means the basics come first. If your CDN or robots.txt blocks their crawlers, no tool will show you in the answers. Our test of whether blocking AI crawlers stops Perplexity from citing you covers what happens when they can't read the page.

The 8 best GEO tools for ChatGPT and Perplexity visibility

1. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

If your team already works in Semrush, the AI data sits next to your keyword and backlink data, and that alone makes it the default. The standalone toolkit costs $99 a month for 25 tracked prompts on one domain, with no free trial. Semrush One Starter bundles it with SEO for $199 a month and 50 daily prompts, and Pro+ costs $299 for 100.

The Perplexity detail matters here. Semrush's knowledge base says daily prompt tracking covers ChatGPT, AI Mode and AI Overviews. Perplexity shows up in the weekly Brand Performance reports, alongside Gemini, rather than in the daily prompt list.

Best for: teams that already pay for Semrush.

2. RankControl

RankControl is built around the second question. It mines the questions your buyers ask and plans titles onto a calendar. Then it writes each article against the pages already ranking for its keyword and scores it for how easily AI engines can quote it. The finished article publishes as a native post on your own site.

AI visibility tracking checks 50 queries every week on ChatGPT and Perplexity, plus Claude, Gemini, Grok and Google AI Mode, on the one plan everyone gets. A new citation sends a notification, and the citation history shows which published article started getting cited on which engine. Outreach for each article is drafted from your own mailbox, because mentions on other sites feed both engines too.

It's $400 a month or $4,000 a year, with 100 pages a month and a 7-day free trial. Auto-publish is off by default, so you approve each article until you trust it.

Best for: founders and small marketing teams who want the pages written and published, with ChatGPT and Perplexity tracked on the same plan.

3. Profound

Profound is the enterprise pick. Its Enterprise plan tracks prompts daily across up to nine answer engines, ChatGPT and Perplexity included, and its credit-based Agents can draft pages and publish approved ones to your CMS. Prompt Volumes estimates how often people ask AI tools about a topic.

The free 7-day trial runs a recommended prompt set on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, so Perplexity isn't in it. Pricing is custom, and agencies can buy client workspaces at $399 a month each. Our RankControl vs Profound comparison covers the trade-offs.

Best for: large brands with a procurement process.

4. Ahrefs Brand Radar

Brand Radar measures visibility against a fixed index rather than only your own prompts. Ahrefs lists about 31 million monthly prompts each for ChatGPT and Perplexity in that index, which lets you see any brand's share of voice on either engine without setting anything up.

The AI Visibility Index starts at $199 a month. Tracking your own prompts is sold separately, from $50 a month with daily refreshes. Brand Radar shows where you stand, and the fixes are left to you.

Best for: teams in Ahrefs who want to size up a whole market first.

5. Peec AI

Peec is a strong analytics tool, with one catch for this list. Self-serve plans let you pick three models from a list that includes ChatGPT but not Perplexity, and Perplexity is sold as an additional model. On Starter, which costs $95 a month for 50 daily prompts, one extra model costs $30 a month.

What you get for it is depth. Peec classifies every cited source as competitor, editorial, reference or user-generated, and every plan includes unlimited users.

Best for: agencies and SEO teams that want source analysis on a daily feed.

6. SE Ranking

SE Ranking puts AI tracking inside a regular SEO plan. Core costs $129 a month for 2,000 tracked keywords and 100 AI prompts checked daily, and its tracker covers ChatGPT and Perplexity along with Google's AI features and Gemini. There's a 14-day trial with no card.

Best for: small SEO teams that want Google rankings and AI mentions on one bill.

7. Otterly.AI

Otterly is the cheapest way to watch both engines. Every plan checks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot daily, starting at $29 a month for 15 prompts. Claude, Gemini and Google AI Mode are paid add-ons, and Grok isn't offered. Otterly has also added page audits and weekly recommendations.

Fifteen prompts is a thin sample, so expect the numbers to jump around. Our list of Otterly.AI alternatives covers the upgrade paths.

Best for: a low-cost first look at both engines.

8. AIclicks

AIclicks pairs daily tracking with a few articles. Starter costs $59 a month for 30 prompts on three models, with ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity as the defaults, plus five AI-optimized articles a month. Pro costs $189 for 150 prompts and 15 articles. Our RankControl vs AI Clicks comparison covers the rest of its plans.

Best for: small teams that want to test a handful of AI-written articles next to their tracking.

Two free checks before you pay

Run 20 real buyer questions by hand in ChatGPT and Perplexity, once a week for a month, and log who gets named and which pages get cited. That was the advice in the r/GEO_optimization thread too, and it costs about an hour a week. It also gives you the prompt list, which is the part a tool can't write for you.

Then check your server logs for OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot and Perplexity-User. If they aren't visiting your key pages, fix access before you buy tracking. A marketer in r/content_marketing described the same manual routine this month and asked whether anyone had found something better than "spreadsheets and vibes".

How are you actually tracking whether AI tools mention your brand?

everyone keeps saying we need to show up in chatgpt and perplexity answers now and i get why, but nobody really talks about how you check if any of it is working, so i've been doing it manually, literally running the same prompts every few...

The manual version stops scaling fast. Fifty questions on six engines takes about five hours a week, before anyone writes a page in response. Our free AI visibility checker gives you a first read on your domain in about a minute if you'd rather start there.

How to judge a tool during its trial

Most of these tools offer a trial of 3 to 14 days, and that's enough time to test them properly if you go in with a plan.

  1. Load your own 20 buyer questions instead of the tool's suggested prompt list, so you're measuring the questions that matter to your sales.
  2. Run five of those questions by hand in ChatGPT and Perplexity on the same day, and compare your results with the tool's.
  3. Check that the tool shows the actual answer text and the cited URLs alongside any score. A marketer in r/SEO who exported an Otterly report this summer noted it listed the prompts but never showed what ChatGPT said, so there was nothing a client could check.
  4. Try the export before you commit. Some tools don't export AI visibility data at all, and some keep exports for enterprise plans.

A tool that passes all four gives you numbers you can defend in a meeting. After that, the question is what you'll do with them each week.

The pick for ChatGPT and Perplexity

If the goal is to watch the answers, the differences come down to prompt counts and whether Perplexity is on your plan or behind an add-on. If the goal is to get cited, the question becomes who writes and publishes the pages both engines read.

RankControl is the GEO tool built for that second goal. It writes the article, publishes it on your domain, drafts the outreach, and checks ChatGPT, Perplexity and four more engines every week on one plan. You can assemble the same loop from a tracker, a writer and a CMS, or RankControl's agents can run it every month while your team approves the pages.

Frequently Asked Questions

For teams already on Semrush, its AI Visibility Toolkit adds tracking with no new login. For teams that want to get cited rather than only watch, RankControl writes and publishes the articles and checks ChatGPT, Perplexity and four other engines every week for $400 a month.

Most do on their standard plans, including RankControl, Otterly and SE Ranking. Semrush covers Perplexity in weekly Brand Performance reports rather than daily prompt tracking. Peec AI sells Perplexity as an add-on on self-serve plans, and Profound's free trial covers ChatGPT but not Perplexity.

Otterly's Lite plan tracks both daily for $29 a month, with 15 prompts. AIclicks starts at $59 a month for 30 prompts on three models, ChatGPT and Perplexity among the defaults. Small prompt sets are cheap, but they swing a lot from week to week.

Most measure it. They run a prompt list on a schedule and chart how often you appear, and some add audits and recommendations. A few do content work: RankControl writes and publishes articles on your site, AIclicks includes a few AI-written articles a month, and Profound's Agents draft pages on Enterprise credits.

Weekly is enough for most teams. AI answers change from run to run, so a fixed set of buyer questions checked every week shows a clearer trend than daily readings. Daily checks help when you're testing a specific page change and want to see it land.
