Passionfruit Labs' pricing page opens with a question: "Why pay $499/month when you can dominate AI search for just $19/month?" One click over, on Passionfruit's agency site, the pricing page says "Custom Pricing" and asks you to book a call.
That's the same company selling two very different things. Passionfruit is a managed SEO and GEO agency. Passionfruit Labs is its self-serve tracker. RankControl sits between them: software that does the work an agency would, for one price. This comparison covers both Passionfruit products, since most buyers are choosing between all three models. Every Passionfruit detail below comes from its two websites and their terms, checked on September 26, 2026.
RankControl vs Passionfruit: the short answer
Passionfruit Labs tracks how AI engines talk about your brand, from $19 a month for ChatGPT alone to $99 for four engines. It suggests content, but your team does the work. The Passionfruit agency does the work for you, with in-house writers and SEO specialists, at a price quoted after a call.
RankControl plans, writes and publishes articles on your domain, drafts link outreach, and checks 50 queries every week on six AI engines. One plan, $400 a month.
For AI search visibility, we'd pick RankControl. It does the work a tracker leaves to you, at a price you can see before you talk to anyone.

What Passionfruit is
Passionfruit was founded by Aditya Raj Jain, a Stanford graduate, and Rishabh Chatterjee, from Carnegie Mellon. Its about page names Mike Maples Jr. of Floodgate as lead investor, and its footer says the team works from New York and New Delhi. The agency focuses on DTC and B2B SaaS brands, and its client logos include Nykaa, Turtle Beach and Bayer.
The agency sells what it calls "AI-native managed SEO + AEO." Its checklist covers editorial, technical, on-page and off-page SEO and GEO, plus programmatic pages, AI visibility tracking and Reddit engagement. Work is done by in-house experts, and reporting runs through its own per-URL dashboard, Page360.
Labs is the self-serve side. It reached #4 Product of the Day on Product Hunt, according to the badge on its site, and it runs your prompts across AI engines every day.

Where Passionfruit goes further than RankControl is the agency's hands-on team. Its specialists work on technical SEO and programmatic pages across your whole site, and RankControl works on the articles it writes.
We'll show you exactly where your brand stands in AI search.

Engines, prompts and cadence
Labs' engine list grows with the plan. Lite at $19 reads ChatGPT only. Starter at $49 adds Gemini and Perplexity, and Pro at $99 adds Claude. Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, Grok, Meta AI, Copilot and DeepSeek are all listed on Enterprise, which is priced on request. If your buyers use Grok or Google's AI Mode, that means asking for an Enterprise quote before you can see where you stand there.
Prompt volume grows the same way. Lite runs 20 prompts a day, Starter 70 and Pro 150. Every plan includes page-level citations, share of voice and sentiment, unlimited competitor tracking, and AI search analytics for sessions and revenue.
AI visibility tracking in RankControl works per query rather than per prompt budget. Each of your 50 tracked queries is checked every week on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Google AI Mode. There's no tier where Grok or AI Mode switch on. You see which engines cited you, where competitors were named instead, and which sources the engines pulled from.

The weekly rankings check adds Google and Bing positions and whether an AI Overview cited your page. RankControl's analytics also count visits from AI crawlers and from people who clicked through from an AI answer.
Tracking is the cheap half
A tracker tells you where you stand. It doesn't change the answer. That takes pages worth citing, published on your domain, and links and mentions that point to them.
An r/ecommerce thread from August asked whether brands still need an agency for AI visibility, after one quoted a $3,000 audit plus $400 a month. One reply summed up the split: "Measuring whether models mention you is the cheap half." Another said an agency only earns its premium "if the audit turns into work you cannot do yourself."
Do we even still need to hire an agency for this AI visibility stuff
We run a small Shopify store, just two of us, and almost paid an agency close to $3000 last month to audit how our brand shows up across ChatGPT and Gemini, plus $400 a month after that to keep monitoring it. I noticed there's already a bun...
On Labs, the work after the dashboard is yours: the plans list content strategy suggestions, and content creation only appears on Enterprise. On the agency side, Passionfruit's team does it for a custom fee. RankControl's bet is that most of that work can run as a pipeline.
The content engine plans titles from the questions your buyers search and writes each article against the pages already ranking. It scores every article for how easily AI engines can quote it, with a fix list, and publishes through the destination you connect. Link Control finds prospects for each published article and drafts outreach from your own mailbox, and its Social agent drafts replies to Reddit and X threads where your articles answer the question.

RankControl's Recon Agent monitors competitor citations across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and Google AI Mode. See where they show up and you don't.

Your first month with each
The three models feel very different in the first few weeks. Here's roughly what happens in each.
| Week | Passionfruit Labs | Passionfruit agency | RankControl |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Add prompts and competitors; daily readings start | Exploratory call and a personalized audit | Setup reads your site; you correct the brand profile and add queries |
| 2 | Readings and content suggestions build up | Proposal and quote | First titles planned; you approve them |
| 3 | Your team writes and publishes what it can | Onboarding if you sign | Articles publish; outreach drafts arrive |
| 4 | You compare readings against your own changes | Work starts | Fourth weekly check on six engines |
The agency's timeline depends on your contract, so treat that column as the likely shape rather than a promise. Labs is fastest to show numbers. RankControl is the only one of the three where articles go live in the first month without your team or an agency writing them.
Support, seats and setup
On Labs, support grows with the tier, from email on Lite to Slack on Starter and one-to-one help on Pro. Enterprise adds a dedicated account manager. It connects to Google Analytics and Search Console. The agency adds its own team and its Page360 reporting on top.
RankControl includes five seats and priority email support on the one plan. Setup reads your live site and drafts your brand profile, products, buyers and competitors before you've typed anything. Setup takes about an afternoon, and nothing publishes until you turn auto-publish on.
What each one costs
Labs is cheap to start. Lite is $19 a month and Pro is $99, with unlimited seats on every plan and a 7-day trial that takes a card up front. The terms say payments are final after the trial, with no refunds or credits.
The agency doesn't publish a price. Its pricing page describes an exploratory call and a personalized audit before any quote. The public terms ask for written notice at least 30 days before the next billing period and say "all payments are final and non-refundable."
RankControl is one plan at $400 a month, or $4,000 a year. It includes 100 pages a month across 26 content formats and 50 tracked queries on six engines, with publishing and outreach drafts included. Used in full, that's $4 a page with tracking thrown in. If you want links done for you, Managed Backlinks is $350 a month. If you want a person steering, the Dedicated Strategist is $1,500.
| What you need | Passionfruit | RankControl |
|---|---|---|
| Track ChatGPT only | Labs Lite, $19/mo | Included with six engines |
| Track Claude | Labs Pro, $99/mo | Included |
| Track Grok and Google AI Mode | Labs Enterprise, custom | Included |
| Articles written and published | Agency retainer, custom | Included, 100 pages/mo |
| Link outreach | Agency retainer, custom | Included; managed links $350/mo |
Questions to ask before you choose
Whichever way you go, a few questions save trouble later.
For a tracker, ask which engines your plan covers and what it costs to add the rest. On Labs, Claude needs Pro, and Grok and Google's AI answers need Enterprise. Then ask who will act on the readings, since the plan itself doesn't write or publish. It's also worth asking how the tool handles answers that change from one run to the next, since the same question can return different brands on different days.
For an agency, ask what the price is after the audit and what the notice period is. Then ask what you get back when you leave: the URLs they published, their reports, the links they built and any social accounts they used. Passionfruit's public terms don't cover a handover, so get it in writing.
For RankControl, the questions are simpler, because the price and limits are published. Check that your CMS is one of the nine destinations, and that 50 tracked queries and 100 pages a month fit your plans.
What people say
There isn't much to read yet. Passionfruit's Clutch profile had no reviews when we checked, and we found no Reddit or X threads discussing it by name in the past year. Its case studies report big gains, such as 60% organic revenue growth for a luxury womenswear brand, but they're company-reported and mostly anonymous.
So you'll be relying on the sales call and your own trial to judge the work. Take a logged-out baseline of your top buyer questions before you start with anyone, so you have something to measure against.
Which wins AI search visibility?
For AI search visibility, the verdict is RankControl.
Passionfruit Labs is a tracker. It covers one to four engines on the self-serve plans and leaves the work to you. The agency does the work, at a price you only learn on a call, with a 30-day notice period and no refunds.
RankControl does the work for one published price. It tracks all six engines weekly, including Grok and Google AI Mode. It plans from your buyers' questions, writes and publishes on your domain, and drafts the outreach. In the first month you get a calendar of titles, articles going live on your schedule and four weekly readings of where you stand.
You can run the loop yourself: write the pages, publish them, pitch the links and check six engines every week. Or RankControl's agents can run it every month while you focus on your product.
