Otterly.AI is one of the best-known AI visibility trackers. You add the prompts your buyers might type, and it checks every day whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers mention you. It's quick to set up and cheap to start.
RankControl tracks AI answers too. The difference is what happens next. Otterly hands you a report and a list of recommendations. RankControl writes the articles, publishes them on your site and drafts the outreach to earn links.
So this comparison comes down to one question. Do you want monitoring, or monitoring plus the work that follows it? Every Otterly detail below comes from its own pricing page and docs, which we checked on October 19, 2026.

Otterly's plans and what each one includes
Otterly prices by prompt allowance. Every plan checks your prompts daily on the same four base engines.

| Plan | Monthly | Yearly (per month) | Prompts | Recommendations | GEO URL audits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lite | $29 | $25 | 15 | 3 per week | 1,000 a month |
| Standard | $189 | $160 | 100 | Unlimited | 5,000 a month |
| Premium | $489 | $422 | 400 | Unlimited | 10,000 a month |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | From 1,000 | Unlimited | Custom |
Standard adds API and MCP access, with 2,000 requests a month each, a Looker Studio connector and a feature Otterly calls Agent Analytics. Premium raises the API and MCP limits to 5,000 requests a month.
The Lite limits are worth a close look. Fifteen prompts is a small sample of what buyers ask. Three recommendations a week means most of the gaps you find won't come with advice. And Lite can't buy extra prompts. On Standard and Premium, another 100 prompts cost $99 a month, and Otterly's page says Standard can add at most 300 before "you will be moved to Premium Plans."
Agencies get a different deal. Otterly's Agency Partner program, open to Standard and Premium customers who apply, raises the allowance to 150 prompts on Standard and 500 on Premium. A business buying the same plan directly gets 100 and 400.
The add-on stack
The base plans cover ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. Everything else is extra, and the price of each add-on rises with your plan.

| Add-on, monthly | Lite | Standard | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| +100 prompts | Not available | $99 | $99 |
| Google AI Mode | $9 | $59 | $149 |
| Google Gemini | $9 | $59 | $149 |
| Claude | $29 | $109 | $439 |
| Grok | Not offered | Not offered | Not offered |
Here's what that means if you want the engines RankControl checks. On Standard, $189 plus Claude, Gemini and AI Mode comes to $416 a month for 100 prompts. On Premium, the same three add-ons bring $489 up to $1,226. On Lite, they take $29 to $76 for 15 prompts. Grok isn't available at any price.
That's monitoring alone. None of those totals include a single article.
How often does ChatGPT mention your brand?
Most founders have no idea. The answer might surprise you.

What RankControl checks
Otterly does lead on two points. It checks every prompt every day, where RankControl checks weekly, and it covers Microsoft Copilot, which RankControl doesn't track.
RankControl's AI visibility tracking checks up to 50 buyer questions every week across seven engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews. For each answer, it records whether you were mentioned, whether your page was cited and which competitors and sources the engine used instead.

A new citation sends a notification. A lost one shows in the dashboard. The weekly check also adds your Google and Bing rankings, so you can see AI answers and search positions side by side.
Is weekly enough? For most teams, yes. AI answers change from one run to the next, so a single day's reading is mostly a sample. A weekly reading on the same set of questions shows the trend, and the trend is what tells you whether your work is moving anything. Our guide to mention tracking vs citation tracking covers why the two numbers move apart.
What happens after the check
This is where the two tools really split.
A tracker tells you a competitor got named for a question you care about. Someone still has to write the page that answers it, publish it and get other sites to link to it. We call this the handoff gap: the point where the tool's job ends and your team's begins.
| After a gap shows up | Otterly.AI | RankControl |
|---|---|---|
| Plan the page | Content brief or recommendation | Title planned from the gap |
| Write it | You write it | Written against the pages already ranking, scored for how easily AI can quote it |
| Publish it | You publish it | Native post on your CMS, auto-publish off until you turn it on |
| Earn links | Advice on which sources AI cites | Prospects found for each article, outreach drafted from your mailbox |
| Check again | Next daily check | Next weekly check |
With Otterly, the handoff gap starts at the brief. With RankControl, there's no handoff until you approve what gets published or sent.
The hours behind that gap add up. If a writer takes about three hours to draft, edit and post one article, eight articles a month is around 24 hours of work. That's before anyone looks for link prospects or writes a single outreach email. It's a rough figure, but it's the cost a tracker leaves on your desk.
15 hours a week manually. Or 15 minutes with RankControl.
Track citations, monitor competitors, and fix content gaps across every AI search engine. Automatically.

How RankControl closes the gap
When a check shows a gap, RankControl's content engine plans a title for it and writes the article. Each one is written against the pages already ranking for its keyword, with the answer near the top, and scored for how easily AI engines can quote it, with a list of fixes. The plan covers 100 pages a month.
Articles go out as native posts through the CMS you connect, including WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Ghost, Notion and Wix. Auto-publish is off by default, so nothing goes live until you say so.
Then Link Control finds link prospects for each published article, finds the right contact and drafts a personalized email from your own mailbox. Nothing sends without your approval.
RankControl doesn't promise citations. The articles earn traffic from Google and AI search first. Citations tend to follow more slowly, mostly as other sites link to and mention you.
What you pay for the same job
Price depends on the job. Here are four jobs and what each tool charges.
| The job | Otterly.AI | RankControl |
|---|---|---|
| Track about 50 questions on ChatGPT and Perplexity | $189/mo on Standard | $400/mo, with four more engines |
| Add Claude, Gemini and Google AI Mode | $416/mo on Standard | Included |
| Add Grok | Not offered | Included |
| Write and publish pages from the gaps | Not offered | Included, up to 100 a month |
| Draft link outreach | Not offered | Included, from your own mailbox |
Otterly costs less to start. Once you add the engines and the content work, the comparison changes. Otterly at $416 a month gives you monitoring on six engines, none of them Grok. RankControl at $400 gives you monitoring on seven engines, Grok included, plus the articles and the outreach.
Who's comparing these two
We pulled Google's US results for "otterly vs rankcontrol" on October 19, 2026. An AI Overview sat at the top. Below it, none of the top 19 organic results was a one-to-one comparison of the two tools. They were all general roundups of AI visibility tools. Neither Otterly's site nor ours appeared in the top 20.
Search volume for the exact phrase is too small to measure. "AI search visibility tools" gets about 720 US searches a month, and "otterly ai pricing" about 50. Most people choosing between these two start with a broad search and then compare pricing pages, which is why this post leads with prices.
Our Otterly alternatives list covers the rest of the field. For tracking advice that applies to any tool, see our guide to monitoring AI citations and brand mentions.
How far to trust either tool's number
Neither tool can give you an exact visibility number, and no tracker can. Each one sends a fixed set of prompts to the engines and records what comes back. The engines don't answer the same way twice.
A commenter in r/GEO_optimization said the same prompt run 10 times in ChatGPT might name a brand in six of the answers. A Reddit user in r/GoogleMyBusiness who analyzed 14,472 AI citations for local queries found that the same prompt asked twice agreed on its sources only about 40% of the time.
So treat any single reading as a sample. That cuts both ways for the cadence question. Daily checks give you more samples, which helps if you watch a few prompts closely. Weekly checks on a fixed set of questions show the same trend with less noise to read through.
Before you pay for either tool, run a quick test. Pick ten questions your buyers ask, run each one five times in fresh chats and count how often you're named. If the tool's reading lands close to your count, it's measuring what your buyers see.
Trials and getting started
According to Otterly's help center, its trial runs 7 days with no card needed. The trial length isn't on the pricing page itself.
RankControl's trial also runs 7 days, with the card up front and nothing charged today. Setup takes your website, and RankControl builds the brand profile, finds the questions your buyers search and starts the first checks.
RankControl vs Otterly: which one fits?
On monitoring alone, the two are closer than their prices suggest. Otterly checks daily on four base engines and sells three more as add-ons. RankControl checks weekly on seven, Claude and Grok included.
The real choice is about the handoff gap. If you have writers, an editor and someone to run outreach, a tracker hands them a list. If you don't, the list sits there. RankControl tracks seven engines every week, then writes and publishes the articles and drafts the outreach, all on one flat plan. For teams that want the work done after tracking, RankControl is the pick.
You can run this loop by hand every week, from the checks to the pitches. Or RankControl can run it while you focus on your product.
